The Train Wreck That is Straight Talk Radio on Gay Parents Pt. II

Posted on | December 20, 2005

I need a drink… badly. I am almost done finishing up listening to last Thursday’s broadcast on Straight Talk Radio regarding the story of a man who was raised in a homosexual environment. As stated in my previous post on this the host of STR, Stephen Bennett, gained some credibility by placing a disclaimer that beginning that the story is just one man’s story. This was restated on Friday when the broadcast resumed the interview. But the comments from “special correspondant” David Begure seemed to imply otherwise. At about thirteen minutes into the second part which aired Friday, David asks Charles if he believes that children raised in a homosexual environment would be detrimental to which Charles answers “yes” citing his own personal experience. Once again we have a generalization based on anecdotal evidence.Because of statements like the, the overall impression that I got was that the environment was being blamed on homosexuality. Assuming for a moment that Charles’ father did in fact know about Charles being molested, that would make him a bad parent who just happens to be homosexual. The father was painted as a bad parent because he was homosexual. We also got generalizations about children of homosexuals becoming prostitutes and such because of the older men throwing money at these young boys in efforts to “recruit them”. I wonder if all the “escorts” on Gay.Com and such came from homosexual homes. I would bet the vast majority, if not all of them, come from heterosexual parents. They also try to disprove that it is the quality of an individual and not the anatomy between there legs that defines a person as a good parent. Take a sampling over at Wikipedia’s list of serial killers. You will see lots of accounts of messed up childhoods. A lot of them heterosexual. But I guess since their parents are heterosexual, these individuals were exceptions whereas if their parents were homosexuals, they would be the rule instead.

I love the castrophic view of gay adoption based on one extreme case. But I guess the same could be said for heterosexual adoption too. I mean David Berkowitz was adopted by apparently loving parents and look what happened to him. Aileen Wuornos, one of the few female serial killers , reported being molested as a child by her grandfather who had, along with his wife, adopted her.

Anyone can find extreme examples at either end of the arguement. That is why I opted to use serial killers as counter examples. We can find the most well-adjusted saints raised by homosexual parents and we can find the most fucked-up kids we could ever imagine raised by homosexual parents. The fact that such disparity exists is because it is not homosexuality or heterosexuality in and of itself. It is something else.

The next edition I have to listen to is one that aired yesterday in which Stephen and Irene discuss this interview. I am so looking forward to that.

I guess it’s too bad for Stephen’s kids that they are being raised by a homosexual.
