Republicans & NeoCons Pissing About “Discrimination”

Posted on | December 30, 2005

While browsing a few blogs early this morning, I noticed a common theme in some of the conservative-leaning blogs that were randomly served to me. Unfortunately I was unable to get any links but they seemed to be doing an quite a large amount of whining about how liberals “discriminate” against them for being conservative or Republican. Cry me a fucking river. None of these puffed-up individuals have probably never even seen real discrimination let alone experienced it.

I will admit that some liberals do act a little bit childish towards conservatives but naturally it is being generalized onto all liberals. Real discrimination is not someone treating you like crap because your political association is the opposite of someone else’s. Real discrimination comes in the form of things like segregation, denial of rights like hospital visitation to same-sex partners, the fact that woman make less than men do for the same work. That is real discrimination. I know the mind set of some liberals who engage in this practice is the turn about is justified given the Republican/NeoCon treatment of gays and such at the present time under the idea that turn-about is fair play. But these people who whine about getting the treatment they get from liberals need to just get over themselves because a few liberals treating conservatives badly does not require a trial in The Hague.

What I find to be a complete hypocrisy is that in the midst of all this pissing and moaning about how liberals treat them, conservatives take it down even more by resorting to name calling. Hardly a day goes by when I check the various conservative blogs I get XML feeds from and do not see some sort of insult. The current one is calling liberals “moonbats”. That particular “insult” needs to be retired because it is getting old and way overused. But then again no one ever accused some of these folks of originality. Right now Michelle Malkin has a headline stating “The New Moonbat Craze in Britain”. But I guess some liberals could take that as a compliment since from the moon you can see the big picture for earth and thus would have a better world view than conservatives.

    yeah, really.

I’m a liberal, and all I see of those right wing NeoCons is hatred towards anything they don’t understand. Not many liberals give back as much vitriol as NeoCons. Liberals tend to be nicer.

It’s pure hatred towards anything they don’t agree with or understand. Believe me I know, I grew up in a very politically-connected Republican family. Their mindset is foreign to me and I think it’s tragic.

There’s an Aesop’s Fable about the Sun and the North Wind. They make a wager over who can sooner convince the man beneath them to take off his coat. The North Wind huffs and puffs and the man only bundles his coat tighter. The Sun then calmly smiles down and warms him, and the man loosens his collar, unbuttons the jacket, and then takes it off. Moral of the story: kind words are more persuasive than argument.

My blog is about science, and I write a lot about combating both ignorance and the vitriol I see from the anti-science crowd. I often try to post links to people of differing opinions, as I think a conversation helps both sides understand each other, and I always encourage people to keep their language clean and insult-free.

    Great blog, I’ll be back!

Coming from Canada where Liberal is not too well received for quite different reasons in the US. Its very interesting to read the ongoings south of the border. With my outside perspective, Republicans are hardly hard done by.
