What a Lovely Glass House You Have

Sir Iqbal Sacranie, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain, decided to use an interview with the BBC to trash homosexuals. Among the terms he used to describe us were promoters of disease (because we all know only gays get AIDS) and, of course, the omnipresent “immoral”. The gay rights organization Outrage was quick to point out the hypocrisy of Sacranie’s statement. The head of the gay rights organization Outrage, Peter Tatchell, was quoted as saying:

“We share a parallel experience of prejudice and discrimination. Victimization of Muslim people is wrong, and so too is the victimization of gay people. Instead of sowing division and promoting homophobia, the Muslim Council of Britain should be working with gay organizations to challenge the twin evils of homophobia and Islamophobia.”

This dual standard of hatred is something that puzzles me and at the same time pisses me off. It is perfectly okay for a black person or a Muslim person to make homophobic statements but man the minute they are called a “nigger” or a “terrorist” all hell breaks loose. British Muslims have a history of ganging up on gay groups. Back in May, 2005,l OutRage! and the Queer Youth Alliance went to show support for the Palestinians and were attacked.

In making his generalized, incorrect statements, Sacranie basically absolves people who insult those who follow Islam like Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin. Hate begets hate and when you perpetrate hatred, do not complain when you find yourself on the other end. This especially applies to Muslims in our post-9/11 world.
