Gay Marriage Debated in Venezuela
Posted on | January 5, 2006
Looks like one of the nations more vocally critical of the United States is taking up a bill that would allow for same-sex marriage. Venezuela’s national assembly will take up the bill when it meets for the first time since the elections when the Bloc for Change party swept the elections due to the opposition party boycotting them.
Venezuela is lead by Hugo Chavez whom has a somewhat of a bad opinion of George W. Bush. American Taliban leader Pat Robertson, who recently made statements that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s stroke was an act of God, issued a fatwah calling for Chavez’s assassination.
Even though Chavez has been kinder to gays, he does oppose the bill so same-sex marriage may take a while in the nation. But it is still a few steps ahead of the US.
