The Book of Death Threats

Posted on | January 10, 2006

In a real show of maturity, not to mention sanity, a group of people who have a tenuous grip on reality at best decided to make death threats against the Terra Haute, IN, affiliate for the Warner Brothers network for airing the controversial NBC show "The Book of David". TBoD is controversial because it features a gay main character, David’s son, and is written by a gay man. The American Family Association decided for these reasons that the show should not air in spite of the fact they had not even seen it. In the end eight stations refused to air the show originally. Four later reversed the decision and the Terra Haute WB affiliate picked up the show in that market. So how did the disgrunted people who did not like the WB affiliate’s decision voice their frustration? By threatening to kill people at the network of course.

The death threats started after the WB affiliate announced it would carry the show and continued after the show aired, to a second place in the ratings I might add. Was the caimpaign of intimidation successful? Not particularly given that the network staff called the police and says it will continue to show "The Book of David".

Are these people not the most charming individuals?
