Can Democrats Do Better?
Posted on | January 19, 2006
I swear the collective intelligence of the Democrat party is seeping out some days. Virginia Governor Tim Kaine has been tapped to offer the Democratic "response" to Bush’s State of the Union Address. What crack are they smoking?!?! Sure Kaine is a Democrat governor in a "red state" but with his anti-gay views he might as well be a Republican.
The blogosphere is a little split over the decision. Kos thinks it is OK while Arianna Huffington does not. I am firmly in her camp on this one. I am not going to go into a long, drawn out rant about the choice because Arianna does a good job of summing it up. The Democrats with their "we can do better" mantra blew it. Period. They could have picked someone who could actually take a stand against Bush and his failures but instead with get an anti-gay, pro-Iraq "Democrat" who will make yet another pointless speech.
Note to Democrats: If you "can do better", now would be a good time to start

“If you “can do better”, now would be a good time to start.”
I agree with you and arianna, and her/the splendid idea to have Murtha deliver the demoRats’ reply.
but the fact is, I am afraid, that they really can’t do any better. the demoRats have a permanent learning disability as far as I can tell. another reason why we need a new party or new set of parties in america. until then most of the liberal/progressive agenda will be on the sidelines.

The problem is they have not discarded the “look like Republicans” idea.
It is kind of like why Kerry lost. He offered nothing new. No one had any idea how Kerry was goingto do so some went with the safer vote which was Bush because they knew how he opperated.
This also has given birth to an anti-thetical faction within the party too.
The problem with multiple parties is that we end up with minority governments and such like Canada and look what happened there. The NDP (New Democratic Party or “Not Destined for Power”) threw a hissy fit and withdrew their support for Martin and forced the governor general to disolve parliament and hopefully Stephen Harper will not rise to power as a result.
