Microsoft Foe Still Grasping at Straws

Posted on | January 25, 2006

Ken Hutcherson has reached a new level of stupidity in his jihad against gay rights. He now wants his followers to buy Microsoft stock and then turn around and sell it in an effort to make the price go down. What he wants is to do is have his followers purchase one or two shares over the next few months and then sell them on May 1st. I guess he needs to go read Investing for Dummies or a similar book because that tactic will not work.

First the purchase would negate the sale probably because it is such a short time frame. Plus I imagine real investors become aware of bullshit like this and ignore it. Not to mention the fact that a few people offloading one or two shares is nothing to worry about. When an individual is dumping a few hundred or thousand shares, then there is an indication of a problem. Not to mention the fact Wall Street looks at factors like the company’s stability, financial transactions, and other such factors.

Second such a transaction would cost more than the share itself because of fees and commissions they would need to pay. According to Yahoo Finance, Microsoft’s stock (MSFT) is trading at 26.40 and a 52-week range of 23.82 - 28.25. Chances are lot of Hutcherson’s followers do not have investment accounts so they will go to places like Sharebuilder which charges $19.95 for their basic account holders for each real-time stock transaction. So in order to try and take a stab at Microsoft for its support of gay rights, it will cost each of Hutcherson’s followers $40 or so.

Give it up Hutcherson. If Tux has not been able to take Microsoft down, there is no way in hell you ever will.
