Gay Couple Not Paying Taxes in Act of Civil Disobedience
Posted on | January 30, 2006
An elderly gay couple in North Carolina is performing an act of civil disobedience and refusing to pay both state and federal income taxes because they cannot get legally married. The taxes would reflect a very lucrative stock transaction.
This issue shows yet another disparity between gay couples and their heterosexual counterparts. Gay couples have to pay higher taxes because they are supposed to file as "Single" as opposed to "Married, Filing Individually" or "Married, Filing Jointly". They also lose a host of other things.
But then again, we have Republicans in the majority and they do not give a shit. They only care about their so-called "values", their precious "good ‘ol boys" network, and their bribes.
Ironic thing is one of the catalysts for US independence was unfair taxation.

Good for them!
I hope this makes big waves.

Me too. Especially since it makes the IRS look bad for picking on a 71 year-old man and his husband.

This is great to see. I wish them luck. The concept is very simple. If a citizen is not awarded equality in society, why should he or she be forced to pay for initiatives that enforce that inequality?
