Who Gives a Shit About Clay Aiken Being Gay or Straight?

I have tried to keep quiet about the tabloid story surrounding some opportunist, a thirty-eight year-old former US Army Ranger named John Paulus, who supposedly slept with American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken. I think it is a waste of ink, paper, and packets to even talk about him. But here I am talking about it myself. But to him and to all those who actually were interest in the story I want to ask this: Who really gives a shit? Clay Aiken will not go through some 180° shift simply because he is revealed to be gay. His singing ability will not change based on his sexuality.

In spite of protestations to the contrary, I do believe the individual making the claim that he had a bareback sexual encounter with Aiken is in it for the money and notoriety. He went so far as to write a letter to Queer Day challenging the online magazine’s characterizing him as a ’sleazebag opportunist’. But why else would Mr. Paulus be making this claim now? Who on earth keeps the wash cloth they used to clean up semen in the freezer? Monica Lewinsky explained why she kept the now-infamous blue dress and that is both logical and rational seeing as she spent a lot of money on the dress and such. And she also did not keep it in a freezer with Bill Clinton’s semen still on it. If this guy had similar reasons, that is why there is paper towel. It is disposable so you can wipe away and then throw it away.

It brings up a point on the sexuality of celebrities and the question of ‘does it really matter?’ as well. I thoroughly detest the notion that I should like a movie, television show, singer and whatnot simply based on gay themes or gay actors. Conversely I also detest groups like CWA, Focus on Family, and the American Family Association calling for boycotts of things without ever seeing them such as the now defunct NBC show "The Book of Daniel". Judge it for its artistic and content merits.
