Michelle Malkin Under Internet Attack

Posted on | February 23, 2006

While checking out my RSS feeds of conservative blogs, I ran across something that infuriated me and it was not something one of these individuals posted but rather what is happening to one of them. Some idiotic individual with way too much time on their hands decided to initiate a Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS) against Michelle Malkin’s blog today. While I happen to dislike Malkin’s views and disagree with her on just about everything, attacking her like this is no different from a kid throwing a screaming temper tantrum in the middle of a store.

Michelle has contacted the FBI which handles incidents like these and it looks like the bulk of the zombies are located in Turkey as the IPs are traced to TurkTelecom. My guess is this is in retaliation for Malkin’s views on the Muhammad cartoon issue that Muslims have been PMS’ing over. Malkin has been a strong supporter of their publication and also supports efforts to combat boycotts against Danish products. This is one of the few things I actually agree with Michelle on. I do not believe that Islam should have some sort of immunity from satire and criticism in artistic expression since Christianity and Judaism as well as other religions have been subject to the same treatment.

The reason I am annoyed someone would stoop to this level is that it serves no real purpose. Michelle Malkin is not going to be silenced simply because you attack her website. In fact she is cross-posting at Pajamas Media until full service is restored to MichelleMalkin.Com. It also points to the fact that these individuals are incapable of actually engaging in discourse. Even calling her stupid names would have carried a level a maturity far greater than launching this attack. Even more so since it affects other sites hosted on the same IP, the same server, and on the same legs of the Internet. I rip on Michelle Malkin and I dislike her views on most topics but I deal with her posts by responding in posts of my own. There is a quote, often attributed to Voltaire, that states: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

It looks like her host has been able to filter out the attacks now given she just posted a couple of minutes ago. I hope you nail these SoB’s Michelle.

Phenomenal post. I admire your defense of your political opposition on this issue. It is intellectually honest and encouraging. This Danish cartoons issue should be something all the lefties and righties can readily agree on.
