New Jersey Bigot Wants Transgendered Substitute Fired
Posted on | February 25, 2006
Some religious fundie is at it again with their "I’m not bigoted, it’s just my religion" bullshit in New Jersey. In the same county where a dying Laurel Hester waged her war against five heartless Republicans to leave her benefits to her partner, Eagleswood School District is having a nasty little fight of its own brewing. Lily McBeth is a 70-year-old woman who became a substitute teacher after retiring from her job as a medical marketing executive. Lily also has raised three kids of her own. The "problem" with Lily is that last year Lily was a man.
According to the school board, McBeth’s record is among one of the best in the state. But apparently that is not good enough for 39-year-old parent Mark Schnepp who is providing a wonderful example to his two children by having launched a campaign to get McBeth fired in spite of the fact that the New Jersey courts bar discrimination against someone simply on the basis of their status as a transgendered person. So with all that, how is Schnepp justifying his bigotry? By stating that having his children taught by a woman who used to be a man "violates [his] religious beliefs". Charming is it not? Where in the Bible, as the article on this did not state Schnepp’s religion the safe assumption the guy is a "Christian", does it say that transgendered people are somehow an abomination or any other adjective used to describe gay people? Just once, for novelty’s sake if nothing else, I would like one of these so-called religious people to drop the smokescreen of "it is against my religion" and just admit their bigotry.
The school board will meet on Monday to take up the issue. Schnepp took out a full-age ad urging parents to come to the meeting and support his bigotry. Garden State Equality also plans to attend the meeting.

Speaking of violations, i think some one should check into Marks Driving Record, Child Support Record and Best of all his IRS Record, I think you might be mildly amused! I honestly think the last time the man has been to church was when he was married. If he wants to hide his backwoods beliefs behind religion he might want to try one of the more uptight religions like catholicism and Born Again. Anybody knows Methodists is one of the most laid back religions. Open hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors. Also, he send his kids to PUBLIC SCHOOL. you really have no religous rights in a public school thanks to separation of church and state. if he wanted religion and education he should have pulled the keg out of his ass and put the money toward a private education. i could go on, but ill stop here!
