School Board Opts to Keep Transgender Teacher
Posted on | February 28, 2006
In a follow up to an earlier story, the Eagleswood school board refused to fire substitute teacher Lily B. McBeth last night. The controversy surrounding McBeth started after she took a leave of absence from her position as a substitute teacher to transition from a man to a woman. When the transition was complete McBeth requested to be allowed back to work and the board voted 41 to 1 to let her do so. A small group of parents demanded the board reverse its decision in spite of the fact that state court decisions were in McBeth’s favor.
A handful of bigots like Mark Schnepp and Vincent Mustacchio attended the meeting and demanded McBeth, whose record is among one of the best in the state, be fired. Schnepp, who took out a full-page ad in the newspaper urging parents to attend the meeting and demand McBeth be fired, played the "religion" card by stating that his kids being taught by a transsexual substitute teacher was against his religion. He probably neglected to tell the board where exactly in the bible it defines transsexuality let alone condemns it. Nice try Mark but better luck next time. Mustacchio said "the children will learn of this and there will be problems" and threatened to keep his daughter out of classes taught by McBeth. Funny thing is when I was in school and there was a substitute, we did not find out about it until we were there and in class. The only time I knew in advance who was subbing was because it was a multi-day absence for my teacher.
The majority of people who attended spoke in favor of McBeth. Garden State Equality was also in attendance. The board listened to the comments from the public and then decided to leave the issue alone by general acclamation.

Speaking of violations, i think some one should check into Marks Driving Record, Child Support Record and Best of all his IRS Record, I think you might be mildly amused! I honestly think the last time the man has been to church was when he was married. If he wants to hide his backwoods beliefs behind religion he might want to try one of the more uptight religions like catholicism and Born Again. Anybody knows Methodists is one of the most laid back religions. Open hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors. Also, he send his kids to PUBLIC SCHOOL. you really have no religous rights in a public school thanks to separation of church and state. if he wanted religion and education he should have pulled the keg out of his ass and put the money toward a private education. i could go on, but ill stop here!
