Professional Heterosexual Alan Chambers Says LGBT Activists Hijack Civil Rights Movement

International President and Professional Heterosexual"
So Alan Chambers, America’s top professional "heterosexual", wrote a post in his blog "Live Out Loud" about how LGBT activists have "hijacked" the "real civil rights movement". Of course he is referring to the racial civil rights movement of the 1950’s and 1960’s lead by individuals like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others. This posting, written on March 9th, was in response to a group of gay activists in Boise, Idaho, placing stickers on drinking fountains and such that stated "Heterosexuals Only", mimicking the racial segregation during the era of the racial civil rights movement. Chambers called the placement of the stickers "more reminiscent of tantrums thrown by spoiled children who don’t get their way". This statement came one week after Exodus International, the group of professional heterosexuals over which Chambers presides as President, had a tantrum over Justin Watt’s parody of one of their billboards and attempted to take him out with their tame lawyers in the form of the Liberty Council threatening malicious prosecution of protected speech.
Daniel Gonzalez of the blog Ex-Gay Watch posted a comment on the entry. Daniel’s comment consisted of a quote from Coretta Scott King, the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who sadly passed away on January 31st this year. While Daniel did not specify which quote exactly, I assume it is one that I have posted on this site several times that was from a speech Coretta Scott King gave during the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force’s annual meeting in 1998:
"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice. But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to make room at the table of brother and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people." - Coretta Scott King, March 31st, 1998
A few days later, Daniel’s comment has yet to make it out of the moderation queue if it has not been deleted yet. But Chambers’ entry leaves us with a dilemma. Do we listen to an organization who has turned their supposed heterosexuality into a business model profiting off of lies and homophobia? Or do we listen to the wife of a civil rights titan and who was no less a titan herself? Personally, I am more towards listening to Coretta Scott King since she was on the front lines of the civil rights movement.
On a side note though, Exodus International is now a supporter of Stacy Harp, a contributor to Alains Newsletter. Alains Newsletter is a radical right-wing site that regularly carries racist and anti-Islam content and is associated with the bigoted Constitution Party. The site was recently rejected by Google for addition to the Google News feed because the company deemed it a site that propagated hate speech. The Traditional Values Coalition is also a support of the site.
