Bigoted Parents Make Another Run at Transgender Teacher Lily McBeth

This is turning into one of those stories that simply will not die. Once again the bigoted parents in the Eagleswood School District banded together to attempt to remove substitute teacher Lily McBeth from her job. McBeth, who took a year off to transition from a man to a woman, was reinstated in her position with a school board vote of 41 to 1. When certain bigoted parents discovered the fact Mrs. McBeth was formerly Mr. McBeth they demanded that the board reverse its decision and fire McBeth who whose one of the best teaching records in the state. One of the more vocal critics of the board, thirty-nine year-old Mark Schnepp, tried the tired tactic of using religion saying that by having his kids in a class taught by Mrs. McBeth would violate the rules of his religion.
On Monday night these parents again came before the board and demand why their "concerns" were not addressed. In an effort to shut the bigots up the superintendent, Deborah Snyder, released the details outlining McBeth’s continued employment that were previously kept private. Whenever McBeth is in a classroom there is to always be a teacher aide in the room. Any younger students who need assistance in using the bathroom will be accompanied by the school nurse. Snyder also reminded parents who had threatened to pull their children from class when McBeth was substituting that the absence would be recorded as unexcused.
This whole thing has gotten to be a farce. Leave the poor woman alone already. She has had what probably was not the most pleasant of struggles in her life splashed across newspapers and the internet. Then she has rabid individuals who are trying to take her job away from her out of pure, malicious bigotry. Get over it people. The law is on McBeth’s side and no lies you pull out of your asses is going to change that. The school is not being fair to McBeth either. The requirement that a teacher aide be in the room with her is both asinine and discriminatory. The bathroom requirement puzzles me though. I have never heard of a teacher in any school I have attended or those that teachers I know work in where a teacher has had to assist a child in the bathroom on a regular basis except in cases of disabilities and usually the school nurse took care of that anyway.
The bottom line is that Lily McBeth’s skills as a teacher did not vanish along with her penis. If she is capable of doing the job she should be allowed to do so without any interference or special conditions simply based on her status as a transgendered individual.
