Endgame in Justinsomnia Parody Fiasco
Posted on | March 24, 2006
Once again free speech is victorious. USA Today is reporting that, in a rare burst of wisdom, Exodus International and its group of tame lawyers, the Liberty Council, have backed down in their threats to sue Justin Watt of Justinsomnia for copyright and trademark infringement for his Photoshop’d parody of one of their billboards. The case started gaining attention after Justin contacted the American Civil Liberties Union and they agreed to take the case. Justin recently appeared on KFTY TV50, a local station, to discuss the matter as well.
I am a little saddened by this. I was hoping they would continue to press the legal threats so Justin could have mopped the floor with them in the form of a counter suit under malicious prosecution laws. But I guess you cannot always get what you want.
