Several Arrested for Attacking Phelps Clan at Funeral Protest

I am shaking my head in disgust over the actions of various people in regards to a protest ad a military funeral in Seaford, Delaware, over the weekend. The Westboro Baptist Cult gathered to hold one of their disgusting "protests" at the funeral for Marine Cpl. Cory Palmer who had died of injuries he sustained while serving in Iraq. Counter-demonstrators apparently assaulted cultists both verbally and physically with rocks and eggs. One counter-demonstrator even broke though police lines and started attacking cult members.
The bottom line is that while it is disgusting and just goes to show what a bunch of degenerates the family of Fred Phelps, who comprise the bulk of the members of Westboro Baptist Cult, really are they are still entitled to demonstrate under the First Amendment. But I have said this over and over again that by engaging in behavior such as throwing eggs and rocks or assaulting members of the Westboro Baptist Cult, all you do is descend to their level. But more importantly you are giving them exactly what they want, a reaction. In turn your reaction encourages them to do it more. It is basic re-enforcement of a behavior people. If you ignore the behavior, it extinguishes because the group will move on to something else to gain attention just like they did when they started these protests to begin with.
